Program Overview

Fit for the Future is dedicated to improving the health and fitness of Tuolumne County youth. Jamestown and Curtis Creek Elementary Schools are participating in the program for 2011-2012 school year. Plans are to include all schools in the county by 2014.

Fit for the Future is a collaborative effort between Sonora Regional Medical Center, the Superintendent of Schools Office and the Tuolumne County Public Health Department. A registered nurse and registered dietician from Sonora Regional Medical Center will be working with PE teachers and educators to capitalize on PE time. They will incorporate basic nutrition education and use highly focused fitness activities to improve the students’ scores on state physical fitness testing.
